Indiana University's Little 500 aka "Little 5" is an annual bicycle race held the third weekend of every April at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Little 5 is an extremely important event at IU that students look forward to yearlong.
We are very proud to announce that after taking a year off, our IU Evans Scholars chapter will once again have a team competing in the event. This year's team is comprised of our senior captain Colin Ringas, junior Tyler Citrin and freshmen Brendan Mullen, Ethan Aberg and Ethan Parsley. The team will look to rally behind Colin, as this is his third year participating in the event, making him our team's most experienced rider.
The team has been extremely dedicated in their training as they prepare for the upcoming qualifications for Little 5 on March 29. Qualifications, or Quals, are time trials in which the 33 fastest teams earn their spot to ride in Little 5. Our team looks to recapture some of the magic from Quals two years ago, when our team finished with the 3rd fastest time, a record-breaking finish for our chapter.
Evans Scholar Mike Hanrahan, who participated on that record-breaking team provided some advice for our current riders. "Do not underestimate how much training is required for a successful team. Every team rides the same bikes on the same track on race day. In the end, the best conditioned team will prevail."
Hopefully our riders can put Mike's words to use, and they can continue to make strides as a team.
